A man was arrested after he punched a police officer on Wednesday.

According to Bellmead police, at 4:46 p.m. officers responded to assist MHMR as they contacted 40-year-old Michael Dawson. He made a threat to MHMR, and that is why officers assisted.

Dawson was staying at a hotel in the 1400 block of New Dallas and officers responded to the initial call along with MHMR.

When officers were able to get Dawson to open the door, he punched an officer in the head knocking him to the ground. He continued to assault the officer until a second officer attempted to subdue the suspect with a taser deployment, according to Bellmead police.

The officer was transported to a hospital due to the injuries he sustained. He has been released after being treated for his injuries.

Dawson was arrested and charged with assault on a peace officer. He was then transported to the McLennan County Jail.
