Midway Middle School hosted its open house Tuesday evening, and one teacher was determined to get her students excited about STEM.

Robotics instructor, Becky Winkler, brought lunar soil and rocks from the Apollo missions in the late 60's to her class' open house.

Winkler had been selected in 2005 to travel to Houston along with other areas to study and research with NASA.

She feels that sharing her piece of history will benefit her students not only in her class but in other subjects.

"If we bring this in and it helps them understand why is it that I need the math, why is it that I need the science," she said. "Then this kind of a program at Midway, I think it is essential.".

Winkler hopes that sharing her experiences will inspire her students to further invest in their STEM studies.
