The Winter Harbor Police Department in Maine has arrested two suspects accused of robbing a home and killing the family dog. Police had been searching for the suspects for about a week.
The police department said that on Aug. 24 they received a call about a burglary, stolen vehicle and a missing family pet. WBZ reported that their Hummer was later found with several thousand dollars worth of damage, and their 6-year-old pug/Boston Terrier mix Frankly was found washed up on the shoreline of a private residence.
After investigating, police identified the suspects as 37-year-old Nathan Burke and 22-year-old Justin Chipman. Both suspects turned themselves in on Sept. 4.
According to Frankly's owner, the two men who are accused of killing Frankly were his friends. The incident happened when he went out of town.
"If done by an enemy that had a vendetta maybe I could wrap my brain around it better, but not by 2 guys I considered friends," owner Phillip Torrey said in a Facebook post. "In the end, I feel peace that somehow even though we had been sent to the wrong place miles away to look for him."
Burke and Chipman were charged with burglary, theft, unauthorized use of property, aggravated criminal mischief and aggravated cruelty to animals.
