Suspect in hours-long College Station standoff identified

An hours-long standoff in College Station has come to an end after police took the suspect into custody around 3 a.m. Tuesday morning.

The suspect has been identified as Michael Blake Jones, 38.

The standoff started on Monday at approximately 10:56 a.m. Police reported gunfire at Rockies Grill and Saloon on Texas Avenue.

Witnesses said that Jones was inside the business threatening to harm himself and firing rounds inside. Witnesses also advised that Jones had been drinking all day and in an earlier altercation, he shattered the front window at Rockies.

Police said Jones fired a gun after entering the restaurant. It is not known how many rounds were fired. 

SWAT and the Hostage Negotiations Team arrived on scene and police began evacuating the area. 

Parts of Texas Avenue were shut down as negotiations with Jones were underway. The Hostage Negotiations team attempted to speak to Jones for several hours without any success or convincing him to exit the business. 

Around 4:30 p.m., Jones fired more shots during negotiation attempts. He raised his firearm and pointed it in the direction of law enforcement firing shots. 

An FBI agent who was assisting the CSPD fired one shot at Jones but did not strike him.

At 3 a.m., due to the difficult and dangerous conditions being created by Jones, an armed vehicle was used to break the front door of the business. Jones was then taken into custody when he voluntarily surrendered to officers. Texas Avenue was reopened and police began to remove the barricades in the area.

Police learned that Jones was in a dating relationship with a person inside of the business and committed an act of family violence before they were called to the scene. 

Jones was charged with criminal mischief, continuous family violence and aggravated assault on a public servant. His bond was set at $250,000.

No one was injured during the incident.
