Academy Sports and Outdoors is helping children in the Waco area get ready for back to school.
The sport and outdoors store donated gift cards worth $100 each to 30 children in Waco. The gift cards were used for clothes, shoes, backpacks and other items needed for the school year.
The kids are part of a summer camp hosted by the Waco Family YMCA.
James Horton, who was shopping for his 4-year-old entering kindergarten, is grateful for the help.
"Let alone just on school supplies, we spent about $60, just from the necessities from the school list than they give us," Horton said. "This $100 takes a load off my shoulders knowing my son is going to have enough school clothes and stuff to last him for a little while."
This is the third year, the sport and outdoor supply store in Waco has participated in the shopping spree giveaway. There are 100 similar events across the U.S.
