Bitmain Technologies Ltd. is set to build a new data center in Rockdale bringing several jobs to people in the area.
The Rockdale Municipal Development District confirmed the new center in Milam County on Monday. Bitmain Technologies Ltd. is a world leader in blockchain hardware, software and services. It will create approximately 400 full-time jobs and invest more than $500 million into the new data center.
The Milam County Industrial Development Corporation president Richard E. Williams Jr. said this deal is a game changer.
“The 400 new jobs in addition to an estimated 137 spin-off jobs could make a major dent in Milam County’s relatively high unemployment rate, while salaries and benefits are above average for Central Texas,” Williams Jr. said.
The Rockdale MDD, Cameron Industrial Foundation, Workforce Solutions of Central Texas and several other local entities are developing training opportunities for future employees. The goal is to offer training to adults looking to refine their skills.
