Bruceville-Eddy police are warning residents about a mystery shopper scam in the area.

Victims have received a flier by mail from scammers asking shoppers to evaluate an Apple Store in their city. The flier asks the victim to purchase three Apple gift cards ranging between $70 and $1,300.

The real company named Field Agent said they do not ask for money from an outside source, including Apple gift cards. Field Agent receives payment through a secured website and only through email.

Police say although these fliers have the company logo on them, they aren't real. No legitimate company would ask for payments to be made through gift cards.

Police added the victim of this scam received a bad check with her name on it. Be sure to always verify with your bank in person when you receive an unknown check.
