Fort Hood range fire 100 percent contained after burning for 7 days

According to the III Corps and Fort Hood, the fire in the northern portion of the Fort Hood range is now 100 percent contained. The fire in the southern portion of the range remains within the permanent dud area.

The four active fires on Fort Hood that burned approximately 8,500 acres last week.

On July 24, Fort Hood's Directorate of Emergency Services closed the two roads through the post's training area due to heavy smoke from the fires. 

Copperas Cove police said on July 23 the presence of smoke and ash is due to a change in the wind direction within the last hour.

The Fort Hood Fire Department will continue to monitor the situation and conduct offensive and defensive efforts to suppress and contain the fire, according to Haug.
