An 18-year-old Arlington man has been taken to jail after attempting to drive from a trooper while firing a rifle into the air during a traffic stop in Waco.

Texas Department of Public Safety Sgt. Ryan Howard said a trooper attempted to stop Rodney Ross for a minor traffic violation around 1:12 a.m. on Sunday at the intersection of Park Street and the Interstate 35 access road.

Ross then fired a rifle into the area and attempted to evade the trooper in his car. He was taken into custody without incident when his Chrysler came to a stop on I-35 near mile marker 353.

He was charged with felony evading arrest and deadly conduct, misdemeanor driving while intoxicated, unlawful carrying and discharge of a firearm in certain municipalities. Ross was taken to the McLennan County Jail where he is being held on a $46,000 bond.
