An annual fundraiser brought dozens of people out to the Lacy Lakeview Volunteer Fire Department Sunday.

Firefighters were serving up some barbeque, taking kids on train rides and hosting an auction to raise money for some of the items they're in need of.

Right now, they're hoping to get a new station, firetruck and extraction tools.

Tomas Cardoza has been a firefighter with the department for five years. He said that last year, this event brought in around $8,000. While the money is extremely helpful, Cardoza said this also gives them a chance to connect with their neighbors.

"We're grateful for anything. Like I said, this is volunteer. We do it out of the kindness of our hearts," Cardoza said. "But the main idea for this is to get the community involved, get them to know who we are and to know who they are as well."

The fundraiser was from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday. If you weren't able to make it out, the department does accept donations all year round.

If you're interested in volunteering or making a donation, you can call (254) 799-2479 or visit the Lacy Lakeview Volunteer Fire Department Facebook pagefor more information.
