ROSHARON, Texas (AP) - A major with the Texas Department of Criminal Justice and three prison guards have been indicted on charges they conspired to plant screwdrivers in an inmate's cell so that the inmate would then face disciplinary measures.
Maj. Juan Jackson and the others are facing charges in Brazoria County, south of Houston, of tampering with governmental records and official oppression.
The Houston Chronicle reports a judge authorized arrest warrants for the men Tuesday. It's not clear if they're in custody. A working phone number for Jackson could not be found.
The investigation at the Ramsey Unit began when a mother of a prisoner complained earlier this year.
More than 600 disciplinary cases have been tossed in the wake of the incident and a separate finding that guards had used a quota system in writing up inmates.
