A Groesbeck police officer was injured after chasing a man with an outstanding warrant on Wednesday overnight.

The officer attempted to stop a car driving on N. Ellis Street, but the car would not stop, so officers initiated a pursuit. Eventually, the car left the road and hit a fence and tree.

The driver, identified as Karl Ray Goodnight, left the car and ran away from the officer through a pasture. The officer followed him for about 150 yards before overtaking Goodnight and taking him into custody.

Police later learned Goodnight had an outstanding warrant for violating his parole. He was taken to the Limestone County Jail on evading arrest/detention charges.

The officer suffered minor injuries during the chase. He was treated at a hospital and released later in the morning.
