The Waco community is saying farewell to one couple who has spent countless hours working to make the city a better place for all.

Majors Bradley and Anita Caldwell have led the Waco Salvation Army for more than three years, but their time in Texas has come to an end.

On June 18, the pair will pack up their car and move on to their next assignment in Mississippi. They've made about half a dozen moves in the last few years.

"There's a unique spirit about Texas and while it isn't necessarily one that we came in understanding, we've developed a great respect for the Texan spirit and we'll take that with us in our heart and with our outlook on life," Bradley said.

The Salvation Army Corps Church and the Advisory Board hosted a going away event for the Caldwells on Sunday. People from the community stopped by to wish the couple well.

"It's the people in this community that make a difference and we've just had the opportunity to walk alongside them and had the privilege to support people and let them fly. I love that, I love that opportunity," Anita said.

The pair agreed that the drive to their new home will be bittersweet since they grew to love Waco and all of the people in.

"Waco has been such a wonderful place to serve," Anita said. "From the day we arrived, we knew this was the place where we were appointed to be."

A photo of the couple will be hung up inside the Waco Salvation Army on a wall that honors all the majors who served in the past.

Two new majors will arrive on June 18 to take their place.
