Waco ISD’s superintendent is hosting two town hall meetings to engage parents and students about school safety on June 18.

Waco ISD Superintendent Dr. Marcus Nelson was one of three superintendents invited to participate in the governor’s first roundtable discussion on school safety on May 22.

According to Waco ISD, both meetings are set for June 18 at 6 p.m. Nelson will lead one session at the City of Waco Multipurpose Center. Assistant Superintendent Israel Carrera will lead the second session at South Waco Elementary School.

Nelson said he encourages the community to participate in these town hall meetings to ask questions and share ideas.

“As educators, we do everything in our power to keep our kids safe,” Nelson said. “However, we cannot do it alone. Our parents, our students and the community all have a role to play. The governor started a statewide conversation about school safety.”

As well as answering questions, district leaders will provide an overview of measures in place to deter threats should they arise.
