U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers at the Otay Mesa Cargo port in California seized over seven tons of marijuana worth $8.6 million hidden in a cargo shipment.

On June 6, Border patrol officers encountered a 45-year-old male Mexican citizen driving a tractor and trailer claiming he had a shipment of “metal racks”.

Border Patrol officers screened the trailer with a human-narcotic detector dog, the canine alerted.

Officers opened the trailer and found 722 packages hidden inside boxes, containing about 14,965 pounds of marijuana worth approximately $8.6 million.

Border Patrol officers seized the tractor, trailer, cargo shipment and narcotics.

The driver was turned over to Homeland Security.
