A man living in a child safety zone has been arrested after police were informed he was an unregistered sex offender.

Mart Police were contacted by the State of Oklahoma Sex Offender Registry about a sex offender who avoided detention around October 2017. They learned he was living in Mart, according to an arrest affidavit.

Along with the information, the police department was provided with a picture of the man, 40-year-old Michael Joseph Pointkowski. Mart police said the picture of Pointkowski was immediately recognized by officers.

Police verified the man lived in a child safety zone in Mart. It is prohibited for sex offenders to live in this area, the affidavit said.

Police said they also confirmed Pointkowski has not attempted in any way to register as a sex offender in the City of Mart.

Pointkowski was arrested on June 7 and booked into McLennan County Jail with a $50,000 bond. He was charged with failure to comply with sex offender registration requirements, a second-degree felony.
