This Clifton Cub squad is doing something no other team has done in the past. The Cubs are playing in their very first ever tournament, and two wins separated them from the programs first-ever state title.

Clifton faced Georgetown Gateway in the semifinals at Dell Diamond Friday morning.

Scoreless through three innings, things changed in the fourth. With bases loaded, Jackson Phillips singled through right field to score two. The Cubs plated two more runs in the fourth on a grounder by Fisher Pitts, 4-0 Cubs.

Bottom of the fourth, Gateway cut that lead on an RBI double.

In the fifth, after an overturned final out, a triple from Edgar Rodriguez brought home Riley Perry from first. The Cubs leading 5-1.

Bottom 5, Gateway added another run on a groundout.

The Cubs went on to win, 5-2, earning a spot in the state championship game, and now they’re just a win away from the school's first state title in any sport.
