The Heart of Texas Regional Advisory Council hosted a wellness event at Baylor Scott & White Hillcrest Medical Center on Thursday.

During the event, attendees had the chance to meet first responders and learn ways to help in case of an emergency, including CPR.

In addition, child safety seat checks, free health screenings, life jacket and bike helmet fittings were also available.

Heart of Texas Regional Advisory Council Executive Director Christine Reeves said she hopes people who attended the event learned something.

"The public doesn't realize that the more that you prepare for and know how to live appropriately, the less chance you have of being injured. The mission of the Heart of Texas Regional Advisory Council is to decrease morbidity and mortality in the five counties that we serve," Reeves said.

Some of the agencies in attendance of the event included the Waco Fire Department, The Texas Department of Transportation and East Texas Medical Center.

This is the second year, the group has hosted this event.
