Non-profit organization Combat Marine Outdoors raised thousands of dollars Thursday to help combat wounded heroes.

The organization's goal is to help wounded military members by providing hunting trips and outdoor adventures. Leaders want to lower the number of suicides committed by veterans daily.

"If we can go out there and do our part in trying to cut that number back, and erase it entirely, which we would love to do," Rusty Hicks, executive director of Combat Marine Outdoors, said. "To get them out there to show them there are people who care, people that truly thank you for your service and it's our way of paying them back. So it does come from the heart in more ways than one."

At Thursday's gala, hundreds of people packed the Baylor Club to open their wallets to support the organization. Fourteen items were auctioned off, some sold for as much as $20,000.

Hicks said this is the only fundraiser the organization puts on itself.
