WACO, TX (KXXV) -

Construction at the East Waco Park will begin this week, impacting roads and certain areas of the park.

Crews will resurface the sports court, improve lighting and install irrigation, curb and gutter. The $300,000 project will be covered through the Community Development Block Grant provided by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.

During the first phase of the project, east half of the park will be closed. Rose, Hood and Chestnut street will only be accessible to residents.

East Waco park will be renamed in honor of late councilman Wilbert Austin who died after battling with cancer last year. There will be a dedication ceremony once construction is complete.
