A man was arrested after police said he beat a victim after a verbal altercation.

The Bellmead Police Department was notified of a reported aggravated assault family violence on May 18.

The victim went to Coryell Memorial Hospital and was treated for three rib fractures and a black eye. Joseph Salazar, the victim's boyfriend, was beating the victim since May 15.

On May 15, the victim stated there was a verbal altercation between the two and Salazar struck the victim in the eye causing pain and bruising.

Salazar also broke the victim’s phone, so she could not call for help. She was able to escape the property, but Salazar threatened the victim and told her to return to the residence.

On May 17, another verbal altercation happened between the two which escalated to Salazar hitting the victim in the head, then kneeing the victim’s ribs.

The victim tried to escape the residence again, but Salazar would not let her leave holding her against her will. She was able to escape and was taken to Coryell Memorial Hospital by a family member to be treated.

Salazar was arrested on May 29 and charged with interference with an emergency call and aggravated assault family violence.

Salazar is still in the McLennan County Jail with a $31,500 bond.
