You could say a position switch has paid off for Baylor junior center Sam Tecklenburg as the Rimington trophy named him to their watch list today.
The Plano native came to Waco originally as a tight end before coach Matt Rhule's staff asked him to make the permanent switch to offensive line last season.
The Rimington is traditionally awarded to the best center in all of NCAA FBS football.
Tecklenburg made all 12 starts for the Bears during last season's campaign, but played at guard for two of the contests.
Coaches say the junior will be more physically ready to compete in a tough Big 12 conference after a full offseason of being a lineman.
