Waco police have arrested a man after he accidentally shot his girlfriend in the face while playing with a handgun overnight.
Police said Anthony Michael Pena, his girlfriend, and two other people were drinking in a garage at 1925 Ethel Avenue around midnight when the incident occurred.
Pena told police he was playing with the handgun when it accidentally went off, shooting his girlfriend in the face.
His girlfriend was taken to Baylor Scott & White hospital in an unknown condition. Police said the bullet lodged into her nasal cavity.
Pena was arrested for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and booked into the McLennan County Jail. No bond has been set at this time.
Police said the suspect and witnesses were not cooperating and their stories weren't matching. They are continuing to investigate.
Pena's bond has been set at $150,000.
