Six people have been displaced after a fire broke out at the Casa Carmel Apartments in Waco early Wednesday morning.

Waco Fire Department Battalion Chief Chris Pechacek said two people were taken to the hospital as a result of the fire, which broke out around 2:21.a.m.

The two-story four-unit apartments are located at 3614 W. Waco Dr.

When firefighters arrived on scene, the fire was coming out of a window on the first floor. Pechacek said one person had jumped from a second story unit and one man was hanging out of the window. Firefighters were able to help the man from the window.

Firefighters entered the apartment above the fire and found two occupants that were removed from the building out of a front window. These two occupants were taken to the hospital in an unknown condition.

Red Cross was called to assist the six occupants that were displaced. Oncor disconnected the power to the building while Waco police assisted with traffic in the area.

The cause of the fire has not been released.
