The United States Senator, John Cornyn visited Central Texas Friday.
He said he feels it's important to visit those with whom he works for.
The Senator started his day at Killeen's new Steven A. Cohen Military Family Clinic. The clinic will serve 54,000 veterans and their families in the area.
Not even an hour later, Senator Cornyn held an open discussion at Central Texas College with surrounding city leaders and Fort Hood officials about what is going on in Washington D.C.
But, with a heavy heart, the Senator spoke about tragic Santa Fe school shooting.
"The concern every parent has when they send their children off to school is will my child be safe. We want parents to worry when they send their children off to school is will my child learn, that's the purpose of school... not will they be safe. That should be a given."
Senator Cornyn left Central Texas to meet up with Governor Abbott and fellow Senator Ted Cruz down in Santa Fe.
