Police evacuate homes after stick of dynamite was found in shed

COLLIN COUNTY, TX (KXXV) -

The Collin County Sheriff's Office said all is clear after a dynamite was found in a shed on Thursday afternoon.

The McKinney Fire Department was dispatched to a call about dynamite being found inside a shed in the 100 block of Covey Lane in Melissa. 

Five houses in the surrounding area were evacuated.

Deputies arrived at the scene and requested assistance from the Plano Police Department Bomb Squad. After arriving at the scene, the bomb squad took the dynamite to a wooded area to be detonated. 

Later that afternoon, the dynamite was detonated. There were no injuries reported by the sheriff's office.
