Highlassies fall to Temple, move to elimination bracket

The McLennan Highlassies dropped a tough 3-2 game to the Temple Lady Leopards this evening in the Region V North Tournament.

McLennan jumped out on the Lady Leopards early, scoring two runs in the top of the first inning. With two outs recorded, Kaitlin Richards doubled. Genisa Marrero-Carter was then safe at first and moved to second on an error, bringing Richards in to score. Ariana Hernandez then singled to score Marrero-Carter.

Temple tied the game with two runs in the bottom of the fifth inning. Lindsey Taylor led off with a double and Kaitlyn Jones singled. Both runners scored on a double by pinch hitter Daisy Gonzales.

The Lady Leopards scored the winning run in the bottom of the sixth. Pinch hitter Michaela Sako singled and moved to second on a ground out by Madilyn Weatherly. Kelsie Murie then singled to score Sako.

McLennan will face either Weatherford or Grayson in an elimination game at noon Monday. The winner of the noon game will face Temple in the championship.
