Report: Man told police he hit daughter with belt because she 'refused to take a nap'

A Round Rock man is facing accusations that he beat his daughter with a belt, according to the Austin American-Statesman

The man, identified as Hawley Starnes, 25, is facing injury to a child charges after the four-year-old was taken to the Dell Children's Medical Center of Central Texas and doctors found bruises and belt marks all over her body. 

The Statesmen said that Starnes admitted to police that he had "spanked his daughter eight times with a belt because she refused to take a nap." 

He told police that he was aware of her injuries but weren't concerned about the bruising.

A family member had noticed a swollen wrist, redness and extensive bruising, according to the Statesman. 

If found guilty, Starnes can face up to 10 years in prison.
