Mayor: One officer has died after shooting at Dallas Home Depot

The Mayor of Dallas announced that one officer injured in Tuesday's officer-involved shooting at a Home Depot has died. The officer has been identified as 27-year-old Rogelio Santander.

Santander is the first officer to die in the line of duty since 2016 - when a gunman ambushed officers in downtown Dallas.  

The other officer that was shot has been identified as Crystal Almeida, and police have identified the civilian shot as Scott Palmer.

The person of interest in the shooting was arrested after leading police on a manhunt for hours. Just after 9 p.m. on Tuesday, police chased a white truck through Dallas. 

The Dallas Morning News reportedthat an arrest was made in connection with the shooting at Home Depot. The Dallas Police Department Helicopter Unit confirmeda suspect had been arrested.

Dallas police identified the person of interest as 29-year-old Armando Luis Juarez. He was charged with aggravated assault of a public servant, aggravated assault in retaliation and theft of property up to $32,000.

Dallas news media reported that one officer was shot in the face, and another officer was shot in the back of the head. 

Police said that the civilian was a loss prevention officer for Home Depot.

WFAA-TV said that two Dallas officers were helping a security guard who was responding to an incident at the store when the shooting happened. 

Governor Greg Abbott said that his thoughts and prayers are with the Dallas Police Department at this time. He added that Texas honors all the men and women who protect and serve our communities, and justice will be served.
