The Texas Department of Transportation is unveiling its "Drive Clean Texas" in honor of Earth Day.

Many Texas cities are either exceeding or close to exceeding federal air quality standards because pollutant levels in their air are too high.

That’s why TxDOT's “Drive Clean Texas” campaign is asking drivers to do their part to help improve and protect the air quality in Texas by reducing harmful vehicle emissions that contribute to air pollution.

Texas is a state with more than 20 million licensed vehicles.

“Drive Clean Texas” is reminding drivers that improperly maintained vehicles not only spew pollutants but also waste money.

Simple vehicle upkeep and changes in driving habits can add up to savings and improved air quality for Texas.

Emissions from cars and trucks make up half of all air pollution in some areas of the state.
