About 100 people sat in the Waco Multipurpose Center to ask candidates for the City of Waco District One and the Waco ISD District One Place One questions ahead of the election in May.

Candidates explained their platforms for their campaigns and what they hope to do if elected.

Ashley Womack and Norman Manning are running for the Waco ISD District 1 Place 1 seat. Cecil McDowell, Dwayne Banks, Andrea Barefield and Luis Guevara are running for the City of Waco District 1 seat.

"I needed to know where our candidates stand so I know I'm making a conscious, educated vote on someone I know is going to stand in line with my principles and my ideals and how I want to see Waco grow with me in it," Terronga Weaver, who attended the forum, said.

People who attended the meeting asked questions about how candidates planned to prevent Waco ISD schools from shutting down as well as the revitalization in Waco.

"I look for someone who has experience in this type of roll, someone who shows integrity, a strong work ethic and someone I feel like you can trust to make the right decisions," Amber Bernard, who attended the forum, said.

Organizers said their main focus of the forum was to remind people about the importance of voting.

"No matter who you are, where you come from or where you're at, your vote does count," James E. Lee Jr, vice president of the Carver Neighborhood Association and McLennan County Justice of the Peace Precinct 2, said.

Election Day is May 5.
