National leaders mourn the loss of former first lady Barbara Bush

Texans and national leaders are mourning the loss of former first lady Barbara Bush. 

Her son, and former president, George W. Bush released this statement:

Grandson George P. Bush shared the sorrow of the family's loss but also the inspiration she leaves behind: 

Grandson Jeb. Jr. Bush also shared fond memories of his "ganny:" 

President Donald Trump and first lady Melania Trump also shared their condolences to the Bush family: 

Former President Barack Obama and former first lady Michelle Obama shared a statement to the Bush family: 

 U.S. Senator John Cornyn (R-TX) issued this statement:

“Barbara has blessed this nation with her unwavering service, strong moral compass, and trademark sense of humor. Eternally devoted to her faith, family, and country, her legacy in promoting literacy will live on in the families she touched and young minds she helped cultivate.  Sandy and I join Texans and the nation in prayer for the entire Bush family tonight.”

 The Barbara Bush Foundation for Family Literacy also released a statement:

Houston Texans Defensive End JJ Watt also shared a sweet memory of the former first lady: 

Bush had recently made the decision to no longer seek medical care and instead focus on "comfort care."
