SMITH COUNTY, TX (KLTV) -

Smith County election officials say misplaced voting materials on election night were due to an election judge not following protocol.

Just before 10 p.m. March 6, ballots from the voting location at Bethel Bible Church in Tyler were recovered after election officials said they were ‘lost or had not yet arrived.’

The Smith County elections administrator tells us an election judge did not follow proper protocol when delivering the voting box.

Each judge is supposed to sign in the ballot box after dropping it off, but this judge did not.

Because of this, officials did not know that they already had the votes collected at Bethel Bible Church.

The elections administrator says she plans on meeting with the judge.
