Baylor Soccer poised to make history in Elite 8

Baylor’s women's soccer is heading to the Elite 8 for the first time in program history, but coach Paul Jobson says they aren’t scared.

“We’re really trying to embrace the moment," Jobson said.  "This doesn’t happen every year. We hope it does, but this is a special run.”

Their opponent, the number one seeded Duke Blue Devils, have been enough to terrify Big 12 opponents.

Through three games against Big 12 schools, Duke has outscored opponents 14-0.

“There is no awe in playing a nationally ranked opponent anymore,” said Jobson.

The Bears have already upset defending national champion Southern California and won in golden goal fashion over Notre Dame.

Jobson says the prospect of playing past Thanksgiving isn’t lost on this team.

“If you can’t be with your immediate family, you want to be with your secondary family," he said. "So we’ll have our Thanksgiving meal Wednesday night so sleepiness from Turkey doesn’t hit us on game day and we’ll go out and play.”

Baylor soccer is scheduled to play Duke Friday, Nov 24, at 4 p.m. in Durham.
