McLennan County District Attorney Abel Reyna has filed for re-election.
Reyna has served as D.A. since 2011. Reyna filed Tuesday with Republican Chairman Jon Kerr.
"When I first ran for District Attorney, I promised the families of McLennan County that I would be an advocate for victims, be a more aggressive prosecutor than my predecessor, and safeguard the taxpayers' dollars," said Reyna. "After seven years on the job, the record is pretty clear. Violent criminals are finally getting the justice they deserve, crime is down and our streets are safer."
There will be a primary on March 6. General election will be Nov. 2018 and the winner will take office in Jan. 2019.
