Baylor volleyball matched a program-high 10 players on the 2017 Academic All-Big 12 Team, announced by the conference office Tuesday afternoon.

The Bears’ 10 selections matches the amount by the 2014 squad and leads the conference this season.

On the first team, Katie Staiger (master’s of business administration) is a four-time first team selection. Tola Itiola (master’s of sports pedagogy) and Jana Brusek (biology) earned their third-straight first team honor while Ashley Fritcher (communication sciences & disorders) earns her second.

Earning their first career academic honors on the first team are Shelly Fanning (communication), Camryn Freiberg (communication specialist), Braya Hunt (health science studies), Nicole Thomas (biochemistry) and Amanda Lesikar (health science studies).

Hannah Fluegel (health science studies) was named to the second team. Fluegel, Hunt and Thomas were named to the Academic All-Big 12 Rookie Team a season ago.

First team members consist of those who have maintained a 3.20 or better GPA while the second team selections hold a 3.00 to 3.19 GPA.

To qualify, student-athletes must maintain a 3.00 GPA or higher either cumulative or the two previous semesters and must have participated in 20 percent of their team’s scheduled contests. Freshmen and transfers are not eligible in their first year of academic residence.

Senior student-athletes who have participated for a minimum of two years and meet all the criteria except percent of participation are also eligible.

No. 19 Baylor hosts Kansas State Wednesday night in Waco at 6 p.m. CT. The match will be live on Fox Sports Southwest.
