UMHB volleyball earns three player awards

University of Mary Hardin-Baylor volleyball players Natasha Evans and Miranda Klein were named to the American Volleyball Coaches Association All-West Region team released today while Corinne Novak was selected as West Region Freshman of the Year.

 

Evans, a senior setter from Edna, Texas (Edna H.S.), was named American Southwest Conference West Division MVP, All-ASC and First Team All-West Division. She led the ASC with 10.16 assists per set this season and was the only Crusader to play in every set for UMHB. Evans amassed 1,138 total assists, adding 81 kills and 361 digs. She was a three-time ASC Player of the Week and named to the 2017 ASC Volleyball All-Tournament team.

 

Klein, a sophomore right side from Georgetown, Texas (East View H.S.), was also named All-ASC and First Team All-West Division. She led the ASC with a 2.99 kills per set average and ranked third with 355 total points. She hit .239 on the year, adding 89 assists and 246 digs. Klein recorded five double-doubles this season and was named ASC Player of the Week (Oct. 10).

 

Novak, an outside hitter from Georgetown, Texas (East View H.S.), was voted West Region Freshman of the Year. She hit .230 in her freshman campaign, leading UMHB with 317 kills. She averaged 2.91 kills per set, served 19 aces, recorded 267 digs and put up 30 total blocks. Novak recorded four double-doubles as a freshman and was also named to the 2017 ASC Volleyball All-Tournament team.

 

This is the first all-region honor for both Evans and Klein. UMHB ended their season as Runner-Up in the 2017 ASC Volleyball Championship Tournament. The Cru recorded the second-most season wins in 2017 and received votes in the AVCA Top 25 poll.
