A big traffic change is coming to Interstate 35 in Temple.

As part of the I-35 improvement project, the Texas Department of Transportation is closing exit 301. .

This exit will be temporarily closed to allow for the construction of the new northbound lanes of I-35 and the permanent 301 exit.

The closure will take place on Saturday morning and extra signage will be in place to redirect traffic.

The closure is expected to last for 12 months.

"It's going to be about 12 months, but by the same token we are going to be improving and reconstructing the interstate, taking down the elevated sections," TxDot Representative, Ken Roberts said.

State Representative Hugh Shine said this is the best option to keep the project moving in the right direction.

"Cause we looked at alternatives, i drove it with contruction folks and they showed me some other options, but those were not safe and i think that what we have come up with here is the best solution in the interum, temporarily and it is temporary," Rep. Shine said.
