Baylor soccer (13-5-2, 4-4-1 Big 12) earned the program’s first ranking of 2017, checking in at No. 23 in the final regular season United Soccer Coaches poll, announced Tuesday by the organization.

BU enters the poll for the first time since earning the No. 24 spot in October of 2016, with its 23rd rank earning the highest spot in the poll for the squad since 2013.

Baylor also rocketed from No. 7 to No. 2 in the South Region poll, trailing only West Virginia and finishing ahead of regional rivals like Oklahoma State, Texas, TCU, and Rice.

Baylor’s strong showing at the Big 12 Soccer Championship propelled the team into the rankings, earning the program’s second tournament title with wins over No. 14 Texas, No. 16 Oklahoma State, and TCU.

The Bears open play in the 2017 Division I Women’s Soccer Championship on Friday, Nov. 10, at 5 p.m. at Betty Lou Mays Soccer Field, hosting the Rice Owls for the opening round of tournament play.
