Jones, Wilkerson take ASC Player of the Week honors

WACO, TX (KXXV) -

University of Mary Hardin-Baylor football players Tevin Jones and Bryce Wilkerson have been honored by the American Southwest Conference for their performances in the Cru’s 51-20 victory over Louisiana College on Saturday. Jones was named ASC Football Co-Defensive Player of the Week and Wilkerson claimed ASC Football Special Teams Player of the Week honors.

Jones, a junior linebacker from Belton High School, recorded a new career high with 15 total tackles in the victory. Eight of his tackles were solo stops and Jones also posted 2.0 tackles for loss and broke up a pass.

Wilkerson, a senior wide receiver/kick returner from Tyler Lee High School, returned a kickoff 95 yards for a touchdown after Louisiana College had closed to within 24-13 midway through the second quarter. It was Wilkerson’s second kickoff return for a touchdown this season and the fourth of his career. He added a 28-yard return and caught seven passes for 77 yards in the contest.

This is the second ASC Player of the Week honor of the season for both Jones and Wilkerson. The Cru is now 9-0 overall and 8-0 in ASC play on the season and clinched at least a share of the ASC title with Saturday’s win. UMHB will close out the regular season with a 1:00 PM home game against East Texas Baptist (7-2, 6-2 ASC) this Saturday at Crusader Stadium.
