MCLENNAN COUNTY, TX (KXXV) -

A number of fire departments were at the scene of a major house fire early Saturday morning.

The fire started just after 5 a.m. inside the second floor of a home in the 600 block of Idlewood Drive.

Fire departments from Waco, Lacy Lakeview, Bellmead, Ross, China Spring, Elm Mott, and Chalk Bluff worked to battle the fire.

The homeowner told firefighters that he woke up and found a fire in the upstairs heating unit.

When firefighters arrived, they said the vent was blowing red and could see smoke coming from the roof.

The fire spread too quickly, so they could only battle it from the outside, Chalk Bluff fire chief Mike Meadors said. The house is a total loss.

No one was hurt, and everyone made it out of the home safely.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
