Bell County deputies have taken a 14-year-old boy into custody after he was found with a pistol in his backpack at Salado Junior High School on Oct. 24.

Deputies said the boy had a 32-caliber pistol with seven rounds in the magazine. No round was chambered.

The backpack was taken from the student's locker in the athletics fieldhouse before deputies arrived.

Deputies said at least two students reported to an administrator that the student had a gun.

Salado ISD sent a letter to parents and employees after the incident. Superintendent Michael Novotny said the district considers the incident an "extremely serious disciplinary infraction."
