The city of Cameron has selected its next chief of police.

The city announced Monday night that the Cameron City Council decided to hire Lonnie Gosch.

Gosch was sworn in at the city council meeting and will begin chief of police duties Tuesday.

Gosch has worked as a Hearne police officer, a Milam County Sheriff's Deputy and has practiced law for the past 14 years in Falls, Milam and Robertson counties.

"Gosch has worked on both sides of the criminal justice and law enforcement systems, making him very valuable to the Cameron Police Department," said city manager Rhett Parker.

The city was searching for a chief of police after the previous candidate for the position withdrew his application days before he was set to begin.
