UMHB women's golf finishes third at Golfweek Fall Invitational

The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor women’s golf team fired its lowest round of the tournament on the final day as the Cru finished in third place at the Golfweek Division III Fall Invitational Tuesday in Florida. The Cru women lowered their score in each of the tournament’s three rounds.

UMHB posted a final round 312 to finish with a 323-315-312=950. The Cru finished five strokes behind Huntingdon College’s second place total of 311-314-320=945. Washington University won the team total by shooting 304-307-301=912. Berry College took fourth place with a 331-307-314=-952 and Washington and Lee rounded out the top five at 321-318-315=954. UMHB’s American Southwest Conference rival U.T.-Tyler took seventh place with a 323-323-313=959. ASC member Concordia Texas took 15th place at 348-330-338=1,016. A 16-team field competed in the tournament.

Tori Gatling was the low individual finisher for UMHB after carding a 77-83-78=238 to tie for 18th place. Casey Washmon (79-79-81) and Olivia Robinson (83-80-76) both posted 239’s for the Cru to tie for 21st place, McKenna Ralston shot 88-78-77=243 after shooting even-par on the final nine holes on Tuesday and shared 34th place, and Cassidy Rawls finished with an 84-78-82=244 to tie for 38th. Washington and Lee’s Mary Frances Hall and Washington University’s Samantha Haubenstock tied for the individual lead with 224’s. 

The three-day, 54-hole event was played on a par-72, 5,838-yard layout at Baytowne Golf Club in Sandestin, Florida. The Cru women will return to action with the Abilene Intercollegiate in the final event of the fall. That tournament will be played October 23-24 at Diamondback Country Club in Abilene.
