Two jailers have been fired and arrested on charges of official oppression after one was accused of putting pepper spray in an inmate's food at the Coryell County Jail.

Coryell County Sheriff Scott Williams was made aware of the incident in June. The sheriff began an internal investigation, and shortly after, he discovered Jason Sherrill had sprayed pepper spray in the inmate's food. Welden Brent Schmidt had known about the incident and did not tell his superiors.

After the investigation, the two jailers were fired. Sheriff Williams also asked the Texas Rangers to conduct an investigation.

The Texas Rangers investigation led to the arrest of Sherrill and Schmidt. They turned themselves into authorities Wednesday morning.

They have bonded out of jail.
