The Waco Cultural Arts Festival kicked off on Friday night with music performances and film.

The event, which is on its 14th year, highlights different forms of art, including painting, music and film.

“I think the importance of celebrating the arts is who we are. We are all artist even if we don’t say we are artists and what this festival is that unites the most diverse community together,” Waco Cultural Arts Fest Doreen Ravenscraft said. "We think it’s really important to offer an event that’s free and everyone can come and enjoy art together.”

On Friday, the festival was expected to have a variety of music performances, including one from the Waco Jazz Orchestra. The opening reception for the Celebration Africa Film Festival started Friday as well.

The event, which is held at Indian Spring Park in Waco, is free to the public. On Saturday, the event, which includes kids activities, runs from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.

The festival will continue on Sunday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
