On Wednesday, the South Waco Library kicked off a cooking demonstration series for seniors that would take place during the month of October.

The Eat Smart, Live Strong series hosted by Texas A&M AgriLife Extension focuses on helping people build healthier habits by showing them healthier options when preparing food.

This free program is part of health literacy month.

"If you have healthy, nutritious food at home. Kids go to school with full bellies and they can concentrate. There area lot of reasons being healthier at home can help them out in the rest of the world. Here at the library we like to provide information that is really diverse about a lot of different topics," Waco-McLennan County Library Community Service Supervisor Jessica Emmett said.

There will be three other cooking demonstrations for seniors every Wednesday at 10:30 a.m.

This month, there will also be other classes to help the community learn about healthy habits at the Central Library. The first session will be on Thursday afternoon at 4 p.m.
