The Brazos County Sheriff's Office is warning residents of a new scam.

The sheriff's office said that several citizens had received phone calls from people who said they were with the sheriff's office, claiming to be a deputy by the name of Blake Hinton. The individual said the victim missed a federal summons for court and could dismiss the charge by paying a fee.

The caller tells victims to meet the deputy at a specific location and uses the phone number 979-464-9942. The sheriff's office said that number is not associated with the agency.

The sheriff's office said that law enforcement agencies will never demand immediate payment, demand you pay debts without giving an opportunity to question, require specific payment method for debts or ask for credit and debit card numbers over the phone.
