Waco and Baylor NAACP, Project VIER Coalition, Baylor sorority and fraternity alumni groups and other civic organizations in Waco registered citizens to vote as part of National Voter Registration Day.

This day is intended to create awareness about voter registration opportunities and to reach voters who wouldn't register otherwise.

Waco NAACP President Dr. Peaches Henry said it is not the last chance to register.

"Every day is a good day to get registered to vote. We say your vote is your voice and if you don't speak up by casting your vote, you are letting others speak for you," Dr. Henry said.

The registration event took place at MCC’s Michaelis Academic Center, Learning Technology Center, and the Science Building. The TSTC Cafeteria was another site for voter registration.

Volunteers will continue registering voters at the Bellmead Walmart at 3 p.m.

Registration will also take place at football games at Waco ISD Paul Tyson Stadium & University High School starting at 4 p.m.

Other organizations that participated included, MCC Black Student Association, Central Texas Action Network, Zeta Phi Beta sorority, Phi Beta Sigma fraternity, Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity, Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority and Delta Sigma Theta sorority.

Baylor NAACP is hosting a voter registration event at the university with candidates for office on Tuesday night.
