Waco police are investigating an incident where a security officer was assaulted while following a potential robbery suspect on Tuesday night.

Around 10 p.m., police responded to the intersection of 18th Street and Webster Avenue to a call in reference to an assault.

Police determined that a security officer who was working at a game room saw a vehicle he thought may have been involved in several recent robberies of the game room. The security officer began following the vehicle when the suspect who was driving stopped and exited the vehicle.

The suspect then began to assault the security officer and a woman inside the vehicle also left and became involved before the pair fled the scene.

The security officer continued to follow the suspect to a Stripes convenience store on Franklin Avenue when a second vehicle with a man inside joined in the incident. The two men rushed the security officer’s vehicle, one firing a handgun at him, police said.

The security officer was able to escape with his vehicle struck by the gunfire.

Both of the men got into the second suspect vehicle and fled to 815 Columbus Ave. where they abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot.

No arrests have been made and the security officer was not seriously injured.
